The Islamic Center at NYU has hosted iftar dinners every day during Ramadan for the past decade alhamdulillah. These dinners are open to the entire ICNYU community, inclusive of students, faculty, staff, alums, non-nyu community members, muslims, and non-muslims and always end up being a great time for everyone who attends.
This year, the Fall ‘09 Academic Semester begins on September 8th, and freshman orientation, known as welcome week, begins on August 31st. Traditionally the Islamic Center has followed a local moonsighting in determining the start and end dates of months on the Islamic Lunar Calendar and estimate that Ramadan 2009 will start either August 21st or 22nd.
We are in the process of making a decision when to start hosting iftar dinners. Aside from the cost of the meals itself, the IC has to cover the cost of room rental and security (and we’ll be sending out a request for donations and sponsorship shortly inshallah)
It would be extremely helpful if you could quickly cast a vote on the following poll to let us know which date you would prefer to see iftar start at the IC.
